Celebrates 4th Annual Family Fun Day at Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway LEITRIM — August 2026.

The Extra Special Parent & Toddler Group celebrated its milestone 4th annual family celebration on Sunday, August 30th, 2026, bringing together over 40 local families for a vibrant afternoon of connection, joy, and community at the Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway in Leitrim Village. Founded in 2022 by local parents navigating the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic with babies born with Down syndrome—including the founder and organizer’s daughter, Katie—the group began with a simple vision to create a safe, welcoming space for families. What started as a small initiative for four families has blossomed into a thriving, empowering community supporting more than 40 families across the region. Empowering Families Beyond the Meet-Ups: The group’s impact extends far beyond regular social gatherings, offering essential developmental resources and peer support. Key initiatives include:

Early Years Development: Specialized parent and toddler sessions featuring therapeutic yoga, play therapy, and baby massage classes.

Professional Workshops: Arranging occupational therapy, speech and language, and physiotherapy-based workshops to build early childhood development and confidence.

Inclusive Community Events: Hosting family days out and seasonal celebrations that unite parents, siblings, and extended families while actively working to reduce stigma.

"Everything we do is guided by one core belief—that our children are amazing and deserve opportunity, joy, and community, and that no family should feel alone on this journey," organizers shared. "We learn together, lean on each other, laugh a lot, and celebrate every milestone—big and small."A Day to Remember The 4th annual family fun day ran from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm, treating attendees of all ages to an afternoon packed with entertainment, games, delicious food, and magical moments.
